School Readiness Programs

The purpose of the School Readiness Initiative is to improve the ability of families, schools, and communities to prepare children to enter school ready to succeed.

San Luis Obispo County's School Readiness Programs will build on existing infrastructure and services and respond to local needs using strategies based on research and promising practices adapted to California's cultural and linguistic populations. School Readiness Programs will link early care and education settings to neighborhood school sites, as well as provide services at or near schools or through outreach or mobile delivery strategies. The School Readiness Programs will act as local school readiness 'service sites or systems,' as well as 'teaching centers' for other communities and 'test sites for evaluation and research purposes.

School Readiness Programs will restructure and coordinate the delivery of quality early care and education, health and social services, parental education/ involvement and support, plus improve schools' readiness for children through family-friendly environments in school-based or school-linked settings.
