School Readiness Initiative
School readiness is not only helping children to be ready for school, but also helping schools be ready for children. Parents, families, schools, and communities all have a role in helping prepare children to enter school ready to succeed.
First 5 San Luis Obispo County's School Readiness Programs build on existing infrastructure and services and respond to local needs using strategies based on research and promising practices adapted to California's and the San Luis Obispo County’s cultural and linguistic populations. Our School Readiness Programs link early care and education settings to neighborhood school sites, as well as provide services at or near schools or through outreach or mobile delivery strategies.
School Readiness Programs restructure and coordinate the delivery of quality early care and education, health and social services, parental education/involvement and support, plus improve a school's readiness for children through family-friendly environments in school-based or school-linked settings.
First 5 SLO County has school readiness sites in Oceano and Paso Robles. These sites serve as models in their school districts and throughout the county for improving early learning, care, support, parent leadership and family engagement.
