Child Care: A Critical Economic Mobility Strategy

Uplift Central Coast spans six counties
Who:
The Uplift Child Care Coalition, coordinated by First 5 San Luis Obispo County, is a partnership formed through Uplift Central Coast’s Catalyst Predevelopment Funding.
Why:
The overarching goal is to facilitate a regionwide, six county, cross-sector coalition, bringing together the brightest minds to ignite innovation and reinforce child care as an integral component of an equitable and thriving Central Coast economy.
Uplift's Regional Plan Part II Report included Child Care as an Economic Mobility Strategy, with four key focus areas:
- Expanding the child care workforce
- Expanding child care facilities
- Encouraging employer supported & subsidized child care
- Improving centralized resources and supporting family navigation of child care options
The Coalition’s mission is to strengthen child care as a cornerstone of economic mobility by uniting cross-sector partners and coordinating regional efforts.
What:
The Coalition will advance Uplift’s position that equitable, high-quality child care is critical for community prosperity and workforce resilience.
Coalition activities will include:
- Facilitating shared learning
- Documenting & showcasing promising best practices
- Activating joint regional advocacy
- Advancing regionwide replication & scaling of best practices
